Mark 4:39

Monday, July 21st, 2008

And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still.  And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Commentary :

Jesus was sleeping peacefully in a boat while a storm swirled all around as His disciples panicked frantically worried.  Then He woke up and gently eased the situation.

Do we like the disciples frequently worry needlessly or have a whole range of unproductive feelings?  While allowing the mind to dwell on a variety of excuses, situations and plans which are not God’s will, a person can be drawn further and further away from the truth.  If instead our dwelling place remains secure in faith in God, then the end result of anything will be positive.

Storms of fear, anger, bitterness, despair, any sin can rage in the heart but don’t have to.

Let us remind ourselves of what God has to offer and compare the advantages He can give to the alternatives of being led down another path fueled by a self destructive force.  The chaotic force that tries to draw people away from truth will make lies appear right by using seemingly invisible blinders and shackles.  But if one looks hard enough and listens to God trying to reason with a person to get them to change () the bound condition is very evident.  Storms come and storms go, no problem is a static condition, but a person often allows one problem or misguided action to be replaced with another similar one.  However by contrast the peace of God is forever.
